What was the universe doing in its first fraction of a second, and what shape is spacetime really? This lab works on string and M theory, quantum gravity, and the physics of the early universe, alongside the curvature of wormholes and other warped spacetimes and the question of whether any of them could, even in principle, be traversable. Much of the work is patient and computational: systematically mapping the vast landscape of possible string vacua, a search problem where careful people find real things.
